When to Arrive in Orlando for your Port Canaveral Cruise

With your private Port Canaveral transportation, you don't have to worry about arriving the day of your cruise. We will always be waiting for your flight to arrive and take you right to the cruise lines. However, based on our extensive experience providing cruise transportation for many years, we recommend that you do not book any flights scheduled to arrive after 1pm in Orlando . Flights can and do get delayed - we have seen it time and time again where our client just makes it to the cruise line before the 4.30pm departure time or completely misses their cruise. Although trip insurance will help with your bill, it won't do much for your spirits. Airlines have become more efficient at keeping on schedule over the past couple of years but we would always recommend to book an early morning flight into Orlando on the day of your cruise. This will give you a much needed time cushion to arrive at Orlando International Airport and leave you with plenty of time to travel from Orlando to Port Canaveral.

If possible, we would recommend flying into Orlando International Airport the day before your cruise departs. This will give you the piece of mind that should your flight be delayed or canceled, you will have plenty of opportunity to figure out contingency plans. You can stay at a hotel nearby the Orlando Airport or we can take you right from Orlando to one of the many hotels in the Port Canaveral area. We will be glad to pick you up from your hotel near Orlando Airport on the day of your cruise and transport you to your cruise liner.

The best time to arrive at Port Canaveral for your cruise is after 10.30am and just before 12.00pm . The cruise lines usually give you embarkation numbers based on arrival times and this will put you close to the front of the line. You will be able to embark quicker and enjoy lunch on the ship. Long lines usually start to form after 1pm for most cruise lines especially for the larger ships (Freedom of the Seas, Carnival Dream, Disney Dream). Most ships list a 1pm official boarding time but you may definitely get on there well before.

Disembarkation Procedures

All cruise lines are usually docked at Port Canaveral by 7am . We generally recommend a 9am pick up time for your transfer from Port Canaveral to Orlando but will schedule your pick up anytime from 7am to 11am if necessary. We have a dispatch department that will monitor the ship's arrivals and communicate with you to coordinate your pick up. We have also introduced a texting feature for our cruise transportation clients. The night before you are set to return to the docks of Port Canaveral, your cruise line will issue your disembarkation time. You can then text us that information to our dispatch department and we can customize your pick up time for the next day. Additional fees may apply.

Once you have passed customs, you will then proceed to the transportation pick up area for each cruise line. They are very easy to find and many of the Port Canaveral staff can assist you. Once you have made your way to the pick up area, we will dispatch the driver from the commercial vehicle waiting area to your exact location to pick you up. This will generally take 5 to 10 minutes for the driver to arrive.

Travelling Port Canaveral

Port Canaveral is centrally located along Florida 's Eastern coast. With its easy access from major metropolitan areas, its an easy commute for many local cruisers. For reference, below are distances from some popular destinations:

If you are planning on driving in to Port Canaveral, keep in mind that the parking fees can be over $20 a day if parking right next to the cruise lines. If you're going on a week long cruise, it's probably a good idea to try and park as close to your cruise liner as you can. However, if you're packing light, then you can take advantage of more remote parking areas a few miles from the cruise terminals at Port Canaveral and save yourself at least $10 a day. Most parking areas offer free shuttle service to Port Canaveral.

The most convenient airport and closest to Port Canaveral, is the Orlando International Airport . It is located only 43 miles from Port Canaveral and you'll be there in under an hour. Don't fool yourself into trying to save a buck and flying into Sanford Orlando Airport - it's not a convenient option and your transportation to Port Canaveral options or car rental options are very limited. You can also fly into Melbourne International Airport but this is a much smaller airport and you'll be more limited in flight options.
